Pirot’s carpet, as an artistic product of protected geographical origin, is on the national list of intangible cultural heritage. It is one of three Serbian rugs that the state will propose to UNESCO to be included in the World Heritage List.
Pirot carving went through several stages of development: the first time of its formation was in the 16th century, when it was done exclusively for domestic needs. Simple and unpainted mats were made: crge and irises. The second phase covers the 17th and 18th centuries. During this period, carpeting was significantly perfected and weaved on a vertical loom, known as the "Pirot loom". In the third phase, the 19th century, The Pirot carpet reached the highest technical and aesthetic values, with a real wealth of ornaments, colors and motifs. Such a high level of kilimaric production in the next fourth phase meant a completely mastered production technique, high-quality craftsmanship, a perfect composition of rugs and four clearly defined parts: outer ćenar, plate, inner ćenar and field. By the name of the pattern in the field is also the name of the whole carpet. Until the end of the 19th century, carpets were painted with natural (vegetable) colors and then artificial (industrial) because they provided multiple shades of one color. Since June 2003, Pirot carpet as a product has been protected by the Intellectual Property Office on the basis of the Law on Geographical Indications of Origin.

Pirot’s “kačkavalj” (cheese) is known all over the world for its specific aroma, which is created thanks to its rich pastures.

Joint cooperation between the Tourist Organization pirot and dairy school Pirot seeks to constantly promote Pirot’s cheese, its tasting, presentation and production.

Pirot’s ironsausage is a top specialty produced from the highest quality meat and is registered in the Register of geographical indications of the name as "Pirot iron sausage" in 2022, and thus, in addition to Pirot’s carpet and Pirot’s “kačkavalj”, it has become the third protected Pirot brand. Pirot ironed sausage is a product without preservatives, additives and artificial colors. It is not thermally processed and is not exposed to smoke. This is a complete ecological and traditional gastronomic product.

The event - Fair of Pirot ironed sausage, was launched in 2013. Manufacturers exhibit their product at more than 40 stalls, and a special jury and visitors after tasting select the best producers of this delicacy.

The artistic value and beauty of Pirot’s pottery can affect contemporary artmakers working on ceramics, as well as craftsmen - potters without much experience. Pirot’s traditional pottery is the most famous in Serbia, and very famous in Europe.
